Mae-sode-Jime - Forward Sleeve Strangle ![]() Mae-sode-jime - the forward sleeve strangle, otherwise known simply as Sode-jime. From on-top of uke, tori slips one hand underneath uke's neck grabbing hold of their own sleeve on their other arm, which in turn takes hold as deep as possible onto their first arm. Other names for this technique include Hasami-jime/Kami-shiho-jime (the scissor strangle (which in itself has two versions - described here is just one)/Upper four quarters strangle - the same move but with uke in a Kami-shiho-gatame hold and tori applying the sleeve move as described above. This technique is classified as Sode-guruma-jime by the Kodokan. Here is a video of the application of the technique:
