Soto Ashi Dori O Uchi Gari

Soto-ashi-dori-ouchi-gari - Outer Leg Grab Major Inner Reaping

Soto-ashi-dori-ouchi-gari is one of the new kokusai-shiai-waza. The length of name worries some - for what is essentially another reasonably easy technique, and one that has been used many times without a proper classification as we now do.

There are two main ways of attempting this technique:

1. Tori attempts an O-uchi-gari, but whilst the leg is trapped, uke can resist the technique. Tori then drops their hikite to uke's leg (behind the knee is ideal, but not essential for the technique to work), grabbing and lifting. This is shown in the first part of the above video.

2. In the second version, Tori has already caught hold of uke's leg - often from a Ko-uchi-gari attack (as demonstrated in the video) - and sweeps through uke's remaining leg for an O-uchi-gari.
