| Tsuri-goshi - Fishing Hip
Tsuri-goshi is actually more of an umbrella name for three different throws. The Fishing Hip is much like O-goshi, with your tsurite taking hold of the belt. The version in the video above is the version that the British Judo Association Technical Grading Syllabus - A Photographic Guide shows as a Tsuri-goshi, however the more common version would be, oddly, ko-tsuri-goshi or o-tsuri-goshi. In this version, tori's tsurite takes hold of the ukes belt over the shoulder of the hikite, similar to the start of a makikomi but with the belt held. Due to this grip, the tsurite should pull uke on to your back, so that there is no need to bend your knees. Tsuri-goshi can sometimes be called Obi-toshi. |
