| Uki-waza - Floating Technique
Uki-waza is a very simple technique to watch, but very difficult to work accurately. It is featured in Nage-no-Kata and Kaeshi-kata as the last technique - perhaps in a reflection of the techniques difficulty?! To perform the technique, the fall of the sutemi is vital - this needs to be tugging your partner to the floor through tori's tsurite, the hikite directing the uke correctly. Stepping backwards, tori drops to the floor, leaving their trailing foot where it is creating a straight leg on the floor - obviously the shape of the leg is not vital to the performance of the technique. In this video uke is given the opportunity to breakfall properly - obviously in shiai the hold would be much tighter and positon after the throw closer. |
