Yoko Tomoe Nage

Yoko-tomoe-nage

Yoko-tomoe-nage is in the new kokusai-shiai-waza, but has been practiced for much longer than the 'new' tag would have you believe. The video above demonstrates this technique three different ways, using the same leg.

1. Attack with the tomoe-nage as usual, but pull down sharply with one hand (in this case the tsurite - it is possible with the hikite, but the tsurite gives more power to the technique).

2. Leg in position as with tomoe-nage, but instead of dropping backwards, drop to the side that the has come from and push with the leg, using the hands as in yoko-guruma.

3. Leg in position as with tomoe-nage, but drop to the opposite side and execute as described in 2.

In this video uke is given the opportunity to breakfall properly - obviously in shiai the hold would be much tighter and positon after the throw closer.
